We’ve built custom Florida homes all over the state for more than 45 years and are known as Florida’s Custom Home Builder. And, since we love to customize floor plans to homeowners’ needs and wants, we have a few suggestions for doing that to your new outdoor space.
Here’s how to build your outdoor living space outside the box!
Customize it
Every ICI Homes floor plan comes with a lanai, a covered outdoor living space. Use this feature as a starting point.
Swimming pools, fire pits, summer kitchens and breezy eating areas are classic additions, but your configuration of this new space is limited only by your imagination.
Begin by scheduling a complimentary customization consultation with one of our designers. That person will listen to your ideas and help bring that outdoor space to life.
Unobstructed service
Planning a bar along an interior wall that faces your lanai? Consider a pass-through window above it. Hand off libations inside and out via a pop-out, slider or accordion-pleat window.
Glass in a corner
If your new custom Florida floor plan includes a dining nook off the kitchen that borders your outdoor living space, think about turning the corner nearest the lanai into a light-drenched area.
Do it with one extra sliding glass door rather than an exterior wall, or eliminate both walls at that corner of the nook with two sliders that meet in a right angle on the corner nearest the lanai. Confirm this won’t affect necessary load-bearing walls. If not, your dining nook will be transformed by the additional light and unobstructed outdoor-living views.
A pool cage that doesn’t look like it
Cages come in all sizes of screen thicknesses and strengths to guard your oasis from bugs and wildlife. Sturdy posts form a cage’s skeletal structure, but consider using wider screens that provide panoramic views while minimizing the visual interruption of posts.
Water features
Swimming pools are awesome. So are pool sprays or jets that function as soothing fountains, and iconic infinity-edge pools.
Plant a focal point
Including a pool usually means including landscaping outside its fence or cage. Also think about landscaping inside those security features, such as palms in a built-in wall planter centered along the back of the pool.
Add an outdoor bar
Expand your summer kitchen by adding an island in front of the classic grill, countertop and cabinet setup. Turn the island’s opposite side into a bar with comfy stools.
