National Association of Realtors®

This information comes from the National Association of REALTORS®’ 2024 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, which dropped in early November. The NAR has compiled this annual report since 1981 and its latest findings come from a survey of buyers and sellers who completed a transaction between July 2023 and June 2024.

Researchers discovered that 17 percent of all buyers surveyed bought a multigenerational home, the highest percentage in this particular category, which the NAR has tracked since 2012. The 2023 percentage was 14 percent.

Buyers in the NAR’s 2024 report cited four reasons for going multigenerational:

  • Cost savings (36 percent)
  • Caring for aging parents (25 percent)
  • Children over the age of 18 returning to the nest (21 percent)
  • Children over the age of 18 who haven’t left the nest (20 percent).

If you’re searching for a new custom Florida home to accommodate multiple generations, ICI Homes can help. We’re known as Florida’s Custom Home Builder and understand this trend.

Master-planned communities

We’ve developed master-planned communities and served as preferred builders in others, for more than four decades. Living a multigenerational lifestyle in a master-planned community gives young folks, adults and mature folks the opportunity to enjoy more than the perfect home (admittedly the first priority).

Buying or building that new custom multigenerational Florida home in a master-planned community means enjoying resort-style swimming pools. residents clubs, fitness centers, a calendar of neighborhood events, and more, depending on the community.

Having access to social outlets is important at any age, and a master-planned community puts them at your fingertips.

Comfortable floor plans

ICI Homes offers a vast library of award-winning floor plans. Our larger homes naturally appeal to multigenerational buyers, but our mid-size homes can be just right too.

At Silverleaf, the popular master-planned community in St. Augustine, eight of the 10 homes we offer in its Courtney Grove neighborhood total more than 3,000 square feet, from the award-winning, 3,610-square-foot Brooke (five bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, three-vehicle garage) to the 4,972-square-foot Aspen (six bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, three-vehicle garage).

If those feel gargantuan, consider our versatile four-bedroom, three-bathroom floor plans in Silverleaf’s Courtney Chase neighborhood. The single-level, 2,565-square-foot Costa Mesa, a perennial parade-of-homes award winner, tucks bedrooms on the sides of the home. Two bedrooms share a full bathroom, offering the ability to configure an in-law suite.
